Are you stressed, overweight?
Looking for cortisol information?
Can the cortisol hormone make you fat ?

Insider secrets to stress weight supplements

Save a fortune by knowing which ones work

Discover little known info about insulin resistance
According to the latest television ads, you're fighting the battle against weight gain versus a nasty
little culprit called cortisol.

Cortisol is a hormone, produced by the adrenal gland when the body is under stress. Your
hypothalamus, via the pituitary gland, directs the adrenal glands to secrete both cortisol and
adrenaline. Cortisol is released as part of your daily hormonal cycle, but both hormones can also
be released in reaction to perceived stress -- both physical and emotional – as part of the body’s
fight-or-flight response that is essential for survival.

There are some experts who are now proclaiming that some of us are living in a constant state of
stress.  As a result, our bodies would over produce the cortisol hormone and release it into the
bloodstream.  Excess cortisol stimulates glucose production. For most of us, the excess
glucose is typically is converted into fat and then sitting in our abdomen, thighs or buttocks as
stored fat.

You see, there are confirmed clinical studies that show fat cells becoming resistant to adrenal
stimulation and in the presence of high cortisol they tend to accelerate into stored fat.  So, the risk
of obesity and in particular, abdominal obesity from high cortisol levels is real.  There we derive
the link from abdominal obesity to metabolic syndrome, which in turn leads to diabetes and heart
disease.

In essence, high cortisol levels can cause your fat cells to become insulin resistant.  Fat cells that
are insulin resistant will not release the fat from the adipose and will continue to grow in size and in
quantity.

Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome
This is why we believe that weight loss has more to do with hormones than anything else.
One factor we know can cause imbalances in cortisol is overconsumption of simple
carbohydrates. When you have eaten a concentration of simple carbohydrates – a snack of a
candy bar and/or a soda, for example -- the body generates a strong insulin response, to
prevent excess blood sugar. This large insulin response in turn can trigger a dramatic drop in
blood sugar – sometimes to levels that are even too low – in the 3 to 5 hours after the simple
carbohydrate was eaten. When blood glucose levels fall, this triggers a surge of adrenal stress
hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. (Sometimes, this can cause nervousness, anxiety,
irritability and even palpitations. This is the phenomenon observed in some children when they’ve
had “too much sugar.”)
Why do we we have higher blood glucose levels at certain times:
  • We eat too many refined carbohydrates
  • Simply eat too many calories
  • Very high stress levels are stimulating cortisol production

What can happen then is something known as “insulin resistance.” In insulin resistance, the brain
and some of the body’s cells fail to react to the presence of insulin in the bloodstream.

The high levels of insulin circulating through the bloodstream stimulate storage of fat and amino
acids, and prevents breakdown of fat and protein.
As mentioned above, your abdominal fat cells are most prone to this condition.
So what can you do if you want to reduce cortisol?

Reducing Cortisol

If we accept that chronic stress and elevated cortisol may be factors in weight problems, what
can we do, besides plunking down $50 a month for most supplements that are questionably
effective?

First, focus on a supplement that can provide a multi-faceted approach to weight loss.  Typically,
a “cortisol blocker supplement” should contain ingredients to reduce stress levels.  Next, it should
contain ingredients that may stimulate thyroid activity, increase metabolism and suppress your
appetite.

So, many of the pundits are correct in saying that there are no true “cortisol blockers” available
due to the lack of scientific evidence, but there are related connective conditions which contribute
to the ultimate cause.

Reducing stress and increasing metabolism may seem like an oxymoron of sorts, but make
sure you look into ingredients that reduce stress and increase metabolism by not attacking your
central nervous symptom.

You should also look to reduce stress by becoming stress resistant. Get regular exercise, even
a daily brisk walk.

Second, practice stress reduction techniques – such as yoga, tai chi, meditation, breathing
exercises, anger management therapy, therapeutic massage, listening to calming music or other
similar techniques.

Third, get enough sleep!

Finally, for those who still wish to try supplements, I suggest you start by researching our review
and doing some light research yourself.
Our analysis of stress weight control pills started by examining  a series of comprehensive and
independent reviews of the scientific evidence on the effectiveness and safety of supplements in
specific classes.

These reviews were conducted by teams of health experts to evaluate the comparative
effectiveness and safety of stress weight loss supplements.

The research team has no financial interest in any pharmaceutical company or product. A
member of the research team, Dr. Hal Rosenthal, served as consultant to Best-Buy-
Supplements. His role was to explain the medical evidence from the BBS reports that related to
criteria for effectiveness and safety.

A systematic review uses rigorous, unbiased methods to examine the similarities and
differences of results across many individual research studies. This approach to reviewing the
evidence increases the reliability of the results.

Next, we obtained supplement prices from a healthcare information company that tracks the
sales of weight loss supplements in the U.S. All the prices are national averages (for consumers
that paid cash) at nutrition stores nationwide during the last month before our analysis was done.
Prices for the exact same supplement can vary quite widely, even within a single city or town.
The prices used in this report reflect the average cash price paid for a month’s supply of each
supplement, for specific doses, at nutrition stores nationwide during the last month before our
analysis was done.

A proprietary algorithm was derived based on prices and relative to effective ingredients included
in the supplements.  The net results yielded an indexed value which indicated the consumer
value price per day for each of the supplements studied.  The complete study indexed over 50
stress weight control supplements.

Best-Buy-Supplements Consumer Report final results are selected based on a stress weight
loss pills’ effectiveness, safety, track record over time and price. The supplement (and dose)
has to:
  • Be in the top tier of effectiveness among supplements in its class.
  • Have a safety record equal to or better than other supplements in the class.
  • Have an average CVC (Consumer Value Cost per Day) for a 30-day supply that is
substantially lower than the most costly supplement meeting the first two criteria.

A Best Buy Supplement may not be the least expensive supplement in its category. Also, more
than one Best Buy Supplement can be chosen in a class if it is equally as effective and its price is
relatively close to that of other Best Buy Supplements.

The Best Buy Supplements picks may change over time as new scientific evidence emerges
and/or as supplement prices change. Also, new supplement choices may become available in a
given category.

Best Buy Supplements staff will monitor prices monthly. It will rely primarily on  ongoing
monitoring of supplement effectiveness research and safety studies for any updates.
What is the best proven stress weight control pill?   Bottom line - what works best for you!   We
would suggest doing thorough research on certain products, consulting with a dietician,
nutritionist, or doctor, and then deciding what would be best for you.

We can only pour through the research, review over 50 stress weight loss pills, consolidate it for
you, and then give you the results and feedback from typical users.  Remember, as with any
weight loss program, a sensible diet and regular fitness is the key to enhance the effects of any
weight loss pill.  The rankings you’ll see below represent the most effective and safest stress
weight loss pills on the market.  They are all prescription free and offer consumers the best value
based on our CVC algorithm. (Consumer Value Cost per Day)

If you don’t see a product listed below, it did not make the top grade and did not score well
enough in any of the major categories.

1. CortiDiet ™ - CortiDiet ™ is the best combination of all components in a stress weight control -
weight loss pill.  It contains ingredients that may help stimulate thyroid activity, increase
thermogenesis, help relieve stress and maintain a steady metabolism.  It also contains
ingredients to manage healthy insulin levels, which we believe is one of the most important
aspects of this product.  Additionally, CortiDiet ™ spares you the discomfort by not attacking your
central nervous system by over caffeinating their product while still increasing your metabolism.

2. Cortislim ™ - A much publicized product in the media.  We reported results that were fairly
effective but many users did not achieve any weight loss.  Scored a distant second in our CVC
per day rating.  Although, most consumers did feel less stressed.  Ingredient quantities are
unknown if you look at their label, which makes Cortislim suspect in terms of quality ingredient
quantities.

3. Relacore ™ - Relacore ™ did relieve stress with many users.  Key ingredient, magnolia bark
seems to aid in its weight loss effectiveness.  The proprietary blend Relacortin, may not contain
the necessary amount of needed extracts to achieve the claims made by Relacore.  Exact
amounts contained cannot be confirmed, as the ratio of ingredients are not provided in the
product’s advertising or on its label. Relacore may contribute to a decrease in abdominal fat, but it
scored just above mediocre in our report.

4. CortiSlender ™  - A very promsing formulation that conains green tea and some of the other
ingredients contained in the other compounds.  CortiSlender ™ is an all natural non-ephedrine
formula designed to help energize your body for success among even the most difficult weight
management programs. Slightly above average CVC rating.

5.  Cortiloss ™ - Makers of the product do not provide much information to you on the web.  The
ingredients are in line with many of the other products in our top ten.  Results were slightly above
average and some users reported minor side effects.

6. Cortivarin ™ - Cortivarin ™ is the revolutionary cortisol (stress hormone) control weight loss
formula designed to help maximize your metabolism, reduce stress and improve mood, while
helping to balance your blood-sugar to reduce food cravings for maximum weight loss.  At least
that's what the manufacturer's claim.  It does contain three interesting proprietary blends, cortisol
control, thermogenic control, and blood sugar control.  Above average ingredient list, average
results.

7. TheraStress ™ -  The only product in our top ten that is a liquid extract, more commonly
known as sublingual.  TheraStress™ is an all-natural Nutriceutical Grade, Professional Potency
Liquid Extract that is specifically designed to help relieve stress, control weight and boost energy
levels. It has a 98% absorption rate, therefore delivering effectiveness well beyond most pills or
capsules.  This is what the website for TheraStress claims.  The scientific fact is that there is no
efficacy advantage carried by a liquid extract over a gel or powder extract.  Claims aside,
TheraStress ™ rated a lot better than many products listed in this review.

8. Cortaway ™ - Claims to contain the exact same ingredients as Cortislim.  The only problem
being that we do not know exactly how much of each ingredient is included in the
formulation.
